As a class we came up with different ways media should affect us. Media should overall inform, be unbiased, educate us and make us think. Also, media should promote societal awareness. I agree with the fact that media should educate us and inform us and feel that it does to a certain extent. Media is so stressed upon us in that it’s in stoned into our lives. The advancement of technology is a reason for this because they have created technology that made media mobile. For example, the invention of cell phones and the computer has made media quite accessible. These devices have come part of our lives. Gross berg made a point in which our lives are supposed by media. “Human Beings have always lived in a world of communication but we live in a world of communication (3).” This adds to the fact we are advancing our communication outlets. We went from a society that was limited phone access when not at home. Now day’s cellular phones can allow media to come in. For example, the web access these phones have kept the face book addiction alive when not at home. You can send e-mail, use the Internet and play games. Another example that backs up media routinely in our lives is “television.” The amount of adds and information while watching your favorite show is ridicules. Certain shows are at certain times, and some people adjust their schedules to watch these shows. Aside from that, if you have been a victim of forgetting your phone at home, then you understand how agitating it is. This reveals how these devices have become a part of our lives. With out your phone, we loose a connection to media and networks, but we as a society have our lives built around these devices and Internet sites. Grossberg supports this in saying, “The media have become an inseparable part of peoples lives, of their sense of who they are and of their sense of history. The media provides an even larger part of their imagery and soundtrack of people’s memories. Some of our most powerful intensely emotional and most important moments are intricately bounded up with the media” (3). Overall, I feel that feel that the creation and Internet lives is affecting our face to face to communication. We live our lives in media base in which these devices become metaphorically “apart of us.”
